I had many different ideas for this last day of my daily design project. I chose to settle on some fire typography, symbolising the end (of this project) and the beginning (of the new year).
I’m happy I managed to keep up with, and complete this project, designing the date in a different way every single day during 2012. There have been some good and not so good days, some hard times, and times when I felt like giving up, but I’m glad I stuck with it. I’ve enjoyed being able to experiment, although the daily time constraints were often hard to work within. I would have loved to have had more time to practice techniques and develop the ideas more. I learnt you can never run out of ideas – they are truly endless.
Thanks to all my subscribers and visitors to this website. It really helped having people following along each day, and asking me questions about it in conversation. Also a special, big thank you to my wonderful husband Raymond, who helped me every step of the way, I couldn’t have done it without him.
I look forward to lazy days at the beach and having a nice relaxing summer, but also have a few ideas in the pipeline, so watch this space. All the best for the new year and whatever it brings!
For those of you who don’t know me or haven’t met me before, this is me. I’ve had this one in my mind for a while so decided to do this hairstyle today, which took longer than I thought (about 2 hours!). Can’t believe there are now only 2 days to go!
In New Zealand we have many beautiful black sand beaches, one of which I visited the other day to collect some black sand for todays design. It’s made using the sand and a magnet. I’ve also taken a video of process, which I like much more than this photograph, as it shows the tiny grains of sand spiking up and moving around, almost like an animation, which I hope to post up at a later date. This was a bit of an experiment, but I’d like to experiment more in the future using this process.
I drew todays design on the mirror I got for my 30th birthday, which I love. It’s been in storage along with most of my other things for about 6 weeks, but now takes pride of place in the entrance of my new home. Plus the final countdown is on, with only four days to go!
It’s boxing day today, and I also have a lot of boxes from moving still to unpack around my new house. So keeping with this theme I’ve used the obvious today to create the type – boxes.
With only 2 days to go until Christmas Day I’ve only just started my present shopping, with a full day of it today. So continuing the Christmas theme I’ve made the type out of candy canes today.
Todays design uses a photo of a Pohutukawa, the New Zealand Christmas tree. When I see these in flower it makes me think of summer, sun, the beach and holidays, which started today for me.
Today is a very exciting one for me – my husband and I settle and move into our first house! So to celebrate us moving into our own ‘castle’ I built a sand castle for todays design.
A couple of months ago my Grandma moved into a rest home, and while helping to clean out her house I found one of her old recipe books being thrown away. I saved it and found this Christmas Cake recipe with a blank page beside it, so thought I’d use this for todays design – a recipe of the date called ‘Daily Surprise’.
I used brown string wound around wooden skewers to create the type for todays design, which I think worked quite well. Plus the finish line for this project is fast approaching, with only 2 weeks to go now!
